Whittier College

Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has given a $13 Million unrestricted gift to Whittier College. This will be use to accelerate its Whittier Works integration of liberal arts education with career preparation as well as support scholarships, career readiness, and experiential education through Paid Internships. A portion of the grant will be strategically invested to ensure that the College is financially stable for the future. This is the second gift to Whittier from Scott.

Scott has intentionally focused her philanthropy on higher education institutions that serve students from historically marginalized communities. Her philanthropy is guided by a deep personal understanding of how fragile educational opportunity can be.

45% of Whittier students qualify for Pell Grants and 40% are 1st generation college students. Whittier’s promise is not limited to opening doors, but about ensuring students leave ready to lead with the skills they have learned through a personalized, experiential education.
